Lawn Chips (Mulch)

Material A

Wood. Most lawn chips are temporary and for the purpose of fertilizing soil.

Disposal: Mulch made of reused or new wood can be placed in the recycling bin.

Material B

Plastic. Some forms of mulch are purely decorative, such as those made of plastic.

Disposal: Plastic mulch cannot be recycled and needs to be placed in the garbage bin.

Best Alternative

Plastic mulch is purely for decorative purposes. Wooden mulch is a cheaper, cleaner and more productive alternative as it not only provides a decorative look to soil, it also helps to fertilize it. These chips eventually degrade and the remainder can be recycled.
